National Apprenticeship Week 2026: Building Skills, Careers & Our Future

Updated: 3 days ago

National Apprenticeship Week (9–15 February 2026) is a dedicated time to celebrate the value and impact of apprenticeships and traineeships across our nation.

Under the theme “It’s in the making,” this week highlights how apprenticeships are foundational in developing real skills, confidence and career pathways - both for individuals and for the industries that rely on them.

Apprenticeships offer something unique: the opportunity to earn while you learn. They blend practical, on-the-job experience with structured training, giving apprentices job-ready skills that are in real demand across sectors from construction to engineering and beyond. For employers, apprenticeships are a strategic investment - helping them build a loyal, skilled workforce aligned with industry needs and future challenges.

Why This Week Matters

National Apprenticeship Week isn’t just about celebration - it’s about awareness and action. It’s a chance to:

  • Recognise the contribution of apprentices and trainees to our economy and communities.

  • Showcase diverse career options beyond traditional pathways.

  • Connect employers with aspiring apprentices and highlight supports available.

  • Share real stories of success and growth from around the country.

By shining a spotlight on training and career pathways, the week helps bust myths about not just what apprenticeships are, but the value they deliver: to individuals, workplaces, and the broader community.

Our Work Supporting the Next Generation

At SCIPS, we’re proud to be working at the forefront of apprenticeship pathways and skill development:

School-Based Apprenticeships & Traineeships (SATS)

Our SATS program supports students to combine paid work, recognise training and their school curriculum, helping them build industry skills while completing their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). We liaise with students, employers, schools and training organisations to make the process seamless and rewarding for all involved.

Two such students, Thomas and Jack, from St Laurence's College, were able to enter the Workplace, and commence apprenticeships in Construction, supported by the SCIPS team.

Seek’a Trade - Building the next Generation

In 2026, SCIPS is delivering the Seek’a Trade pilot program in partnership with nine Building & Construction Gateway to Industry Schools. This initiative gives Year 11 and Year 12 students the opportunity to explore trades through a tailored ACE program and a short-term work experience placement in their chosen field. These placements not only offer hands-on insight into industry life but also help students build confidence and connections that pave the way for future apprenticeships or traineeships.

By supporting work experience, school-based training and early engagement with industry, we’re helping young people take meaningful steps toward skilled careers - and helping employers welcome the next generation of talent.

Get Involved

Whether you’re a student, employer, parent or educator - National Apprenticeship Week is a great time to get involved. Share stories, open doors for apprentices, and help shape the future of Australia’s skilled workforce.
